Delivery and returns

The platonic ideal of the lazy autumnal day must, inevitably, contain a long country ramble amidst the fast-rusting landscape and a pub lunch, followed by a return home to recharge by a fire, a slice of farmhouse-style cake somewhere close to hand. Crucial to this tableau too is, of course, the accompanying mug of tea, an item that may seem unassuming, but the exemplar of which can prove elusive, and thus all the more beautiful when it is found. The British-based Rebecca Williams Ceramics hand crafts this superlative example from stoneware clay, its simplicity and gratifying weight combining to make it irresistible to cradle and warm cold mitts. Cut by hand in slabs, each mug – which takes three weeks to make – is distinct from the last, and finished in an understated soft matt vanilla glaze. Its exposed seams are decorated using handcrafted stamps imprinted onto the wet clay, the individual elements combining to charming and characterful effect. As a country for whom tea-making and drinking is a national pastime, rare is the recipient who would not relish this most useful and beautiful of gifts, to invoke the mighty William Morris. Happily, it is also dishwasher and microwave safe.
