Caring For Your Oak Furniture

Like all natural materials, oak flourishes with a little gentle attention. Below, you'll find simple guidance to help preserve the beauty and integrity of your piece for years to come.

A Living Material

Wood is a living, breathing material, responding to the ebb and flow of temperature and humidity in your home. Subtle expansion, hairline cracks or gentle warping are all part of its natural story. To keep movement to a minimum, we recommend positioning your piece away from direct heat sources such as radiators or underfloor heating.

Daily Care

A simple routine will help your oak furniture maintain its beauty. Wipe with a lightly damp, non-abrasive cloth, then immediately follow with a dry cloth t oremove any residual moisture. Avoid chemical cleaners or silicone based-based polishes, which can alter the finish over time. Instead, we recommend Osmo Spray Cleaner, which both cleans and nourishes the timber.

Nourishing The Wood

To keep the finish as resilient as possible, your furniture may benefit from occasional re-oiling every 6 to 12 months. We recommend Osmo Polyx Oil Matt, which will help to condition the wood and enhance its longevity – though do note that it may slightly deepen the woods natural tone.

Repairing Your Furniture

Scratches and knocks are an unfortunate part of daily life, especially for most well-loved pieces. Fortunately, our oak furniture is finished in materials that are easy to work with, so minor damage needn't be permanent. Many marks can be treated at home with a little time and care – if you're unsure where to begin, we'd be happy to guide you through the process.
